Grok Bot Can Now Control Your iPhone, And Three Other AI Updates Worth Knowing

Claude Duet wasn’t the only notable AI release this week. Grok Bot, Google’s Gemini suite and ChatGPT all picked up updates that are easy to miss but genuinely useful.

Grok Bot Now Lives On Your iPhone’s Action Button

You can set the iPhone’s action button to call Grok Bot directly, even with the screen locked, and once connected it shows up in the Dynamic Island so you can keep using your phone while talking to it. Separately, Grok Bot gained direct control over several iPhone functions: it can check and add calendar events, control Apple Home devices, check reminders and set alarms. For anyone frustrated with Siri, this quietly replaces a lot of what Siri is meant to do.

Dashboards Instead Of Reports

Grok Bot can now turn research into a shareable dashboard rather than plain text. One example tracked weight, nutrition and workout progress over time, with charts instead of paragraphs. Another scanned recent YouTube comments and produced a sentiment dashboard, flagging anything that needed attention. The point isn’t the novelty, it’s that a dashboard sent to you each morning needs far less reading than a written report you have to go and find yourself.

NotebookLM Now Shows You The Plan Before It Builds

Google’s NotebookLM added a review step for slide decks and video overviews. Instead of generating the whole thing immediately, it first shows you an outline, for example fifteen planned slides with a one-line summary of each, so you can correct the direction before any of your usage allowance gets spent on something you don’t want.

ChatGPT Added Locked Chats And Shared Slides

ChatGPT now lets you lock sensitive conversations behind a PIN, moving them out of your regular history and search. It’s not end-to-end encrypted, so it won’t stop a determined hacker, but it does stop someone who picks up your unlocked phone from scrolling through your chats. Separately, ChatGPT’s slide-deck feature now supports comments and team collaboration, similar to working on a shared Google Slides file.

Why This All Matters Together

The common thread across Grok Bot, Duet and NotebookLM this week is the same: these tools are increasingly designed to be read on a phone screen in seconds, not read in full on a laptop. Dashboards, previews and quick voice control all point the same direction. If you’re deciding which assistant to invest time in, that’s the trend worth watching, more than any single feature.
